As part of Fortescue’s commitment to decarbonise its operations, new renewable green power electricity will be transmitted between sites using a dedicated 220KV overhead transmission network. TCD was contracted to undertake the major earthworks for access tracks, pads and substations to support this network between the Lamba Substation and Christmas Creek Mine.

Key Deliverables:
  • Vegetation clearing, grubbing, and stockpiling for 240 tracks and power pole pads over 120km
  • Construction of 2 new raised engineered embankment substation pads at Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek
  • Extensive borrow, cut and fill operations including grading, compaction, and final trim to design tolerances
  • Rail crossings, traffic management and operational integration measures

Works were delivered in close coordination with FMG stakeholders, minimising disruption to ongoing mine activities. Following successful completion, TCD was awarded a subsequent scope of comparable scale and complexity.

  • New drainage infrastructure — open drains, box culverts, reinforced concrete pipes and over 6,000 m² of concrete revetment mattress
  • New potable water, communications and electrical service installations including substations and lighting poles

Works completed under strict environmental and heritage monitoring requirements, including dust suppressant use and cultural monitors.

TCD were engaged by CSI Mining Services at Kens Bore, part of the Onslow Iron Project, to construct a multi-plate steel underpass tunnel and installation of culvert drainage pipes, headwalls and rock protection.

  • Installation of tunnel base channels
  • Installation of 73m long multi-plate steel with additional rib plate installation in the centre

  • Construction of 9 individual culverts totalling over 900m at several locations along the proposed Dominion Haul Road
  • Construction of 6+ km of mine standard access track across virgin ground with very steep and undulating terrain
  • Project considered high-risk by the Principal’s stakeholders due to challenging terrain conditions and operation within the active mine area
  • Culverts located within natural alignment of surface water paths in steep gullies of varying widths

The project was completed ahead of program and with zero HSE incidents.
