We delivered the civil construction of a new transfer pond at FMG’s Christmas Creek mine site in the Pilbara. This facility provides buffer capacity for dewatering flows, directing water to injection borefields within the local water network. The project involved significant earthworks to create a contained basin, including the construction of embankments and a pump pad, alongside the installation of a comprehensive geosynthetic lining system and through-the-wall suction piping. Our approach began with clearing and grubbing over five hectares, followed by detailed foundation preparation and subgrade compaction. We constructed the pond embankments using both site-excavated material and imported fill, placing and compacting in controlled lifts to meet strict permeability standards. Once the earthworks were complete, we coordinated the installation of the geotextile underlay and HDPE liner, managing the deployment and welding process to ensure integrity. We also installed the suction piping infrastructure through the embankments, including supports and vortex breakers, and completed ancillary works such as rock pitching, fencing, and access ramps before commissioning and handover.
