We constructed the civil foundation for a 197 MWdc solar photovoltaic generation facility and battery storage system at the Cloudbreak mine. The project formed part of Fortescue’s broader decarbonisation strategy, requiring extensive site preparation across multiple solar arrays, laydown areas, and overhead line corridors. Our scope covered the Eastern and Western arrays, including access roads, perimeter fencing, and drainage infrastructure essential for the renewable energy hub. Our team executed large-scale clearing, grubbing, and topsoil management, followed by bulk earthworks to grade the site for PV mounting structures and power conversion stations. We constructed internal access roads and installed a series of box culvert crossings to manage site drainage. The works also included the installation of perimeter fencing, backfilling of exploration sumps, and extraction of test piles. We managed the complex interface between mining operations and construction, ensuring all civil works met the precise survey set-out required for the solar farm’s electrical and structural components.
