TCD delivered maintenance works to restore the total capacity of four turkeys nests at Rio Tinto’s Brockman 4 mine site in the Pilbara. The project focused on clearing built-up sediment and vegetation from the Stockyard, Central Facilities, Sunset Boulevard Central, and Pit 2 Western locations to ensure effective water management across the site. Our approach involved constructing hardstand access pads for heavy plant and temporarily removing stock fencing to reach the pond areas. We utilised a long-reach excavator with a clam bucket to remove bulrush reeds and other vegetation that had been loosened by high-volume water jets. At the Central Facilities location, we excavated and constructed a new rock-pitched spillway, lining the channel with geotextile and HDPE liner before placing interlocked facing rock. All removed material was transported to nominated disposal sites, and fencing was reinstated upon completion.
