A collapsed corrugated steel culvert under Rio Tinto’s rail needed a quick and failsafe fix.
TCD and our Indigenous Partner, Yurra, pushed a new steel sleeve through the existing culvert from the short side of the collapsed area. We then excavated the excess material and jetted high pressure water through the culvert. With the steel pipe in place, our team capped and grouted each end of the culvert by hand, before grout filling the void with a pump.
With the emergency culvert fix completed, we then poured an in-situ headwall for the culvert. Some additional earthworks on the access track and two rail crossings ensured the operations were back in working order as fast as possible.
